The contrast of this photograph perfectly illustrates the deep shadows and silvery highlights reflecting the heat of the sun beating from the cliffs of this remote part of the Arizona desert. I could feel my heart racing as I looked up to see the flames of light leaping from the cliff’s edge igniting the ancient Navajo dwellings set into the rock. I quickly captured the shot, so as not to miss the disappearing afternoon light. The height of the cliffs, like a temple to the power of the sun, was truly breathtaking and a moment I will never forget.
