Deer Valley, Utah
After driving eight hours I saw nothing but clear skies, which to me equals no good. I needed overcast light, something to give my shot that perfect autumn mood. There was only one thing for me to do, wait, and that’s not easy for me. The weather reports mentioned a passing storm but nothing happened as it often does. This was going to be a real test of my patience. There was no other option as the leaves were changing color by the minute. After five long days and thousands of miles of driving things finally started to change. It was so frustrating finding the perfect location and not being able to shoot it properly due to the hard sunny light. I had a vision in my mind of what I needed for this shot to be perfect and waiting for Mother Nature to present herself was completely frustrating. Finally, on day six as I was about to pack it in, I felt a change in the air. Highway 92 was my destination. I already had the perfect location in mind but would Mother Nature follow? I drove through the heavy mist as fast as I could, hoping the sun above wouldn’t steal the shot that I had so desired. As I pulled up to my final destination this magical scene presented itself to me — It was everything that I had imagined and more. I gently pressed the shutter. The smell of the autumn air added another sense to the scene and the total calmness was only broken by the sound of my camera capturing the moment. This is what I live for.
