Only a stone throw from San Francisco, this peaceful grove of ancient forest giants are the symbolic “lungs” of the city. I hiked into Mount Tamalpais State Park before sunrise one morning, enjoying the solitude of these tranquil surrounds. In the stillness of dawn the only sounds I heard were that of my own footsteps and the occasional scampering squirrel. The overcast light filtering through the forest canopy was perfect for shooting. In order to achieve the clarity I wanted I used a long exposure to allow the soft light to saturate the film and really bring out the depth and colour of the scene.
