Yosemite National Park, California
The 3000-foot granite rock formation known as El Capitan has been photographed many times. But I knew that I could say something different about it with the right image. I wanted to get the whole thing in frame, but give it a context and not isolate it. I had to capture something unique. The lake and snow-covered rocks in the foreground give great perspective to the shot while the clouds that touch the top of El Capitan make it look almost volcanic and alive. I liked the idea that my photograph showed that there’s life in this ancient rock formation yet.
