Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve, Lancaster, California
Poppies love wind—my biggest nightmare for photography! As soon as I arrived at Antelope Valley the wind was roaring, making it impossible to shoot. Even the slightest breeze will move the extremely fine poppy petals. It was a huge test of my patience, threatening to leave countless times. Finally, after five days (it felt like five weeks), my thin patience was rewarded. The morning was still, and I hiked out to the colorful field. I needed a long exposure to capture all the depth of the field, and set up my camera directly above the scene. The composition was strong, and the poppies were lined up in perfection. I took a series of shots and chose this one for my gallery.
