Looking for the classic LA shot was bloody elusive. Despite the famous traffic nightmare – locating the vantage point was just as challenging. The LA skyline, although massive and dominating – needed a touch of natural style to complement its grandeur. Searching for this palm grove really tested my patience and navigating skills! Finally after days of driving around like a bloody lunatic – I knew I was getting close.
I saw this clump of palms on a ridge in the distance – all I had to do was get there. One road lead to the next and the next. Dead ends and one way streets – but I kept going. I parked at the base of the ridge, grabbed my gear and hiked to the palms. Using a long lens I carefully framed the LA skyline and silhouetted the trees. It worked, I pressed the shutter – my efforts paid off. The classic LA shot. Love it.
