I had spent over 10 days in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park–shooting from all angles. I knew that this location could attract clouds at certain times and wanted this extra element for the shot. That afternoon, I hiked to the top of the lookout through thick fog and thought the shot would be a white out, but I pressed on. As the evening sun set, a window magically appeared in front of me and I took a series of shots. Seconds later, the clouds rolled back over and the shot disappeared forever. It was a truly special moment.
