Manhattan, New York
The biggest challenge of shooting New York City from the heart is gaining very special, almost impossible, vantage points to capture the true soul of this amazing city. I was one of a very few people in the last few decades to be granted one of the biggest privileges on earth, gaining access to undoubtedly the most famous architectural classic deco building in the world – the Chrysler building. Strict security was by my side with every shot. When we got out of the freight elevator and climbed through the windows, I was totally blown away, face to face with the New York City’s famous gargoyles (eagles) that I had only previously seen in famous black and white photos. I had goosebumps on goosebumps. There was a 360 degree view on this floor and I had to work fast to set up as the night closed in. I selected this classic angle to shoot across town toward the Bank of America building. Twilight kicked in gorgeous cobalt blue skies, and I shot like a madman. I heard my security guy begging me to leave, as we were well over an hour behind schedule.
When I walked back onto the streets, full of peak hour walkers, it was like being in another world. Atop, alone with New York City, capturing its soul from an extremely iconic, inaccessible masterpiece. I hope looking thru “Eagle’s Eye” you are with me in that special place. The most iconic building in the most iconic city in the world! It was simply stunning.
