Temple Bar, Arizona
The night skies have fascinated me since I was a kid. To capture just a speck of this beauty on film proved to be a real challenge. Because of the Earth’s movement, I needed a special motorized tripod head, aligned with the North Star. Takahashi was my choice of glass. I then needed a crystal clear night–away from the light pollution of Las Vegas. I researched a place called Temple Bar, and headed out after dark. What a complicated process this was, setting up all the gear in pitch dark! It took me six trips to master the process–very frustrating, but very rewarding. The nebula of Orion’s Belt looked like a tiny smudge on the lens through the telescope; the colours weren’t even visible to the naked eye. A five–minute exposure revealed a beauty only the camera could display–another side of Mother Nature that’s truly amazing and truly magical.
