Queensland, Australia
I had already set up on the banks of the river as the first streaks of dawn began to appear, and for once had plenty of time to compose my shot. Usually I am panicking at first light, but I knew this area well having shot it several times before. There was an aura of calm blanketing the scene and I couldn’t help but be influenced by my tranquil surroundings–the river was so still it seemed like glass and there was hardly a whisper of wind to break the surface. I knew I would be using a long exposure, because I wanted the image sharp throughout to enhance the starkness of the scene, so was grateful for the stillness. When I saw the results of this shoot I wasn’t disappointed–the silhouettes of the shadowed trees rise like ghosts out of the river and make for a dramatic and graphic image.
