White Mountain, New Hampshire
I had chosen this location late the previous day, and set up camp as close as possible in order to avoid wasting any valuable time tracking down the shot the following morning. I woke up early to give myself as much time as possible to capture the scene the way I had envisioned it. That morning every bright color was on full display. Framed by the stunning white birches and the ashy black trunks, the reds appeared ever redder. And the shot itself, one of the most beautiful I’ve ever taken, appeared as if it had emerged from the canvas of some long-forgotten French Impressionist. Moments later the wind rose, the mist vanished, and I was left facing a beautiful, but less magnificent scene.
