The Big Island, Hawaii
After shooting many sunrises, you become very selective. It has to be bloody magical. I set up my gear on the edge of the beach, carefully framing the overhanging palms. I had to ensure that all the shots were not going to look messy, as a silhouette has an unspoken strength. It’s something we don’t normally see. I discovered the isolated shores of this remote beach on the Big Island the previous day. As the sun cracked the horizon, I got chills as the rays spread across it. You could look through the palms and almost touch the sun. I’ll never forget the meditative sound of the crashing waves as I pressed the shutter and the fresh morning salty breeze filled my lungs. I selected this exposure to tell my story.
