Manhattan, New York
Photography is all about light and perspective. You have to have both when shooting New York City. I wanted to get a shot that differed form the other millions of photographers, so I looked for a style that would be iconic Peter Lik. This was no easy task.
“Under the Bridge” was it – powerful, iconic and stunning. I chose a panoramic format to really exaggerate the perspective of the shot to isolate the image out of the frame. I deliberately blew the background out, giving it a surreal, dreamy, painterly effect. It was all a big risk, something I would not normally do, but it paid off. The image was perfect.
You can almost feel the rivets in the bridge and the reflected light and long exposure gave the image the quality that I was chasing. This image breaths with its own sense of scale and uniqueness – it’s what I strive for. New York City – you can feel it
