When shooting in the desert, I am always searching for that perfect, dramatic moment. Braving 100+ degree heat to find the right ridge, I settled on a spot, set up my tripod, and waited for the clouds in the distance to roll in toward me. I was completely caught up in the presence of this moment with the clouds overhead and the ripples in the sand thatched up like the Earth’s spine, capturing the retreating light and casting an imposing shadow. Shooting a vertical composition allowed me to capture the magic and power of the moment, giving the shot a sense of immense strength.
