In summer in the Rockies, the period of dusk lasts for a very long time. The light is fantastic and instead of racing against time as is normally the case, I could take my time to set up and compose my shot. During the day I wouldn’t have looked twice at his location to shoot, but at this time of evening it took on a tranquil, peaceful feeling. As I waited on the banks, the lights came on in the boathouse and I loved the beautiful reflections they cast onto the still waters of the lake. As I watched the scene change under the evening skies, a mother and baby moose appeared just feet from me to drink from the lake. I love this image–the colour, the light, and the feeling of absolute calm it evokes.
