Mount Charleston, Nevada
In photography, lighting is everything. The right light can transform an ordinary scene into a winning shot, and it is well worth braving extreme conditions to get that extra something special. I was shooting Mount Charleston for my new book on Vegas when some amazing cloud formation caught my eye. As evening approached the wind really picked up and was creating what I knew would be an incredible backdrop for the silhouetted cactus. I set up my camera really low to the ground, creating an unusual perspective to the image. Just before the sun disappeared, an awesome ray of red light absolutely lit up the heads of the cactus and I walked away with this absolute killer shot.
