I wanted to capture the true spirit of Nantucket. I spent over two weeks traveling every back road and sand trail of this Atlantic paradise. Finding this location really spoke to me. The ironic thing about this beautiful area is that all the houses on the island are required to be strictly maintained, so they look basically the same–shingled roofs and freshly painted white window sills. “The Porch” oozed the character I was chasing and the creaking floorboards added even another dimension. I framed the shot up as if was I sitting on the old bench, looking out onto the beach, just enjoying life as I listened to the sound of the ocean. The peeling paint and turquoise colours of the bench and shutters blended perfectly into the ocean waves.
