You never know quite what you’re going to get when you shoot the ocean until you see the printed photograph. There’s no way of knowing how the water broke or swirled at just the second you hit the shutter. I was stoked with what I saw in this shot because the water is doing so much and making one of those terrific patterns in nature that I’m always hoping to capture. And the sky, with the clouds on fire, has a wonderful painterly feel. This photograph is “up close and personal” and epic at the same time.
