Valley of Fire is one of those places that really earns its name. In summer, it feels like one huge furnace. But even in the cooler months, the sunlight literally makes the place look like it’s going up in flames. I love the reds and oranges here and the way the shadows create stark contrasts and seem to sculpt the rocks. Sometimes I feel like nature is the artist and I just record her work. I mean, look at the detail in this shot! It’s truly painterly, with brushstrokes by Mother Nature herself. When I’m out capturing her work at times like this, I feel very lucky to be doing what I do.
