This is classic Florida–white sandy beaches, palm trees swaying lazily in the late afternoon breeze, and the turquoise ocean providing a shimmering backdrop. I spent a week down here searching for the ‘perfect’ image of the area, but even mid winter it was hard to find a beach with no people! I shot roll after roll at countless beaches but I knew I was missing a certain something. When I came across this location, I just knew it was the place. I set up as the afternoon shadows were creeping down to the shoreline but the sun was still strong enough to highlight the great textures and patterns in the sand. I composed horizontally at first but it was when I swung the camera round–using the fronds of the foreground palms as my frame–that the image just fell into place.
