While shooting the Vegas city skyline from the rooftop of the Rio Hotel, I was distracted by the gently flapping flag above my head. In a spontaneous decision, I decided to create an image that would depict this ultimate symbol of patriotism high above the city streets. To strengthen the bold composition, I filled the entire frame with the flag and used a long exposure to enhance the feeling of movement. The combination of the exposure along with a fast film enabled me to create a painterly feel to the shot.
