Upolu is an isolated cay off the coast of Cairns, surrounded by the most dazzling crystal clear waters you will ever see. On the day I had chosen to make my trip I awoke to perfect conditions–very little wind and brilliant blue skies. The cay is tiny which limited my opportunities for composition, but I decided to set up on the waters edge encompassing all the elements at my disposal–ocean, sand, sky and the distant mountain range. I waded out to knee deep and used the breaking waves as a feature to lead the eye into the shot. Waiting until a slow moving wave broke directly in my foreground, I captured this portrait of tropical perfection.
