Kona, The Big Island, Hawaii
With over 250 miles of coastline, much of it inaccessible, Hawai’i’s Big Island boasts dozens of pristine beaches. I spent over 3 weeks searching for the one perfect beach. Turquoise water, powder white sand and the overhanging palms. A long hike over black lava beds, carrying my camera, lead to what I had been looking for. I loaded up my camera in its underwater housing and began to shoot half above the surface and half below, which gave this image a fresh perspective. I shot for an hour, playing with various camera angles when I spotted a lone shell on the ocean floor. Enhanced by the clear blue water, it stood out as I pressed the shutter and captured a single moment that was days in the making.
